By His Wounds

Reading:  I Peter 2
My Verse:  "He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered  Himself on it], that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.
By His wounds you have been healed" (2:24).

Just out of curiosity I looked up a couple reports on antidepressant drug usage in the USA.  According to these reports usage doubled between the years 1996 - 2005, and continues to rise.  People are hurting and having trouble dealing with all that their lives demand of them.  And these sre just the documented doctor prescriptions!  There are many who use either alcohol or illicit drugs to ease their misery.

Tozer in We Travel An Appointed Way says this.  "Unnecessary burdens are crushing the life out of people every day . . . Civilization has not made our lot easier except in things pertaining to the body; the burdens of the heart are growing more numerous, and science has found no remedy."  The only aid science has come up with are drugs that dull the pain and senses, so that we become a society numb to our world.

Life is hard - no question about that.  But, You, Lord God knew the awful burden of sin.  You knew how it would crush us.  Try as we may, and many do try, we cannot live a truly free, normal, unburdened life.

Lord God, You paid the terrible debt for " . . . without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins"  (Hebrews 9:22 ESV).   You personally "bore our sins."

No, I cannot get by without admitting I am a sinner.  I cannot fix things on my own.  I must admit You died on that cross for me, to save me.

You only, Lord, are the "the Way, the Truth, and the Life" (John 14:6).   When  You asked Simon Peter, if he and the other disciples would also leave Him as so many did when they realized You wanted not just their works but their whole selves, Peter responded in his characteristic emphatic way!  "Simon Peter answered, Lord, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life"  (John 6:68).  So do I respond, Lord Jesus.  I see no other truth, no other way.  I cannot live without believing that You saved me by Your wounds.

There is a wonderful song "By His Wounds" performed by Littrel, Powell, Hall, and Chapman. It can be viewed on YouTube. I truly enjoy this song whenever we sing it during our worship service at church.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Easter - this special time that we celebrate that amazing thing You did for us.  For it is "By His wounds you have been healed."  And I continue to be healed.  Thank You.

Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
