God Intervenes

Reading:  Genesis 20
My Verse:  "Yes, I  know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me.  Therefore, I did  not let you touch her" (20:6).

Oh, LORD God, You step into the affairs of man to keep a terrible thing from happening.  For at this time, because of Abraham's lack of faith in You, LORD God he creates a dangerous situation that could have consequences throughout the ages.  Because of his fear and lack of faith he asks Sarah to again do a despicable thing.  Yet, here You make sure she is not touched.  You do this to make it very clear so that there is no question as to the parentage of the son to whom she will give birth.

Yes, You stepped in and actually appeared to Abimelech.  Wonder of wonders Abimelech is anxious to please You, he and all his people!  They were God fearing and responded immediately and correctly to You.  How wonderful is that!?

How often do we as Abraham, lacking faith, flub up our situation?  We get blinded by the immediacy of our problems, forget to look up and panic.  Then we try to fix things on our own - generally only making things worse.  What do You tell us over and over?

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).

I love this verse.

"He says, "Be still, and know that I am God;
                               I will be exalted among the nations,
                               I will be exalted in the earth." (Psalm 46:10)

Sometimes I just need to take a deep breath and stop my worrying.  I need to stop and allow You to soothe my racing mind, my anxieties.  For really what can I do? I see only a little bit of the big picture.  I only understand a very small part of what is happening.  You, are God Almighty and You love me more than I can ever understand.  You have plans I know nothing of.

I thank You and praise You for intervening in my life whenever I try to go in the wrong direction.  I thank You for intervening to fix my mess ups.  Doubt is a terrible thing!  It plagues us.  Help me to learn from this passage about Abraham.  Help me to cry out to You in my moments of doubt.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil" (Proverbs 3:5-7).

Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
