God Provides the Will and the Skill!

Reading:  Exodus 35 - 40
My Verse:  "And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and wisdom, with intelligence and understanding, and with knowledge and all craftsmanship" (35:31).

This is a  most beautiful section of the Bible.  LORD God, here You remind me of whence all our skills and abilities come!  You tell Moses how You want Your place of worship to look and be.  You are very detailed and orderly in how You want this to come about.  Then You provide each man and woman with that which is necessary to make this all come about - the will and the skill.

I am reminded here of teaching art to children.  Too often children are told to draw or paint a picture of something without any preparation.  The teacher expects them to just come up with it - then of course the child is intimidated and feeling inferior or inadequate because they can't come up with something.  No, there needs to be much preparation.  The student needs to be provided some guidance, direction and material from which to draw their own creative ideas. When provided this kind of guidance the results are beautiful.

That is what You do here LORD God.  First, You tell the Israelites what You want then You provide each and everyone the material - "filled with the Spirit of God, with ability and wisdom, with intelligence and understanding, and with knowledge and all craftsmanship."  You do not expect the people to draw from a blank to do what You expect.

Even when You asked them to give of their own bounty to build the temple - You provided them the desire to give - "And they came, each one whose heart stirred him up and whose spirit made him willing, and brought the offering to be used for the Tent of Meeting, for all its service, and the holy garments" (35:23).  You provided them the desire and they had the option to respond to that or not.  So You do with us.

Even the ladies that were to do the sewing, were able to do so only because You gave them the ability and the desire to do that service. "And all the women who had ability and whose hearts stirred them up in wisdom spun the goats' hair" (35:26).

Yes, You endow each of us with the will and skill to do that which You would have us do.  Looking back on Moses is a wonderful picture of this - You provided him each step of the way in his journey with what he needed to carry out Your will.

Thank You, LORD God for providing me all that I need to live an abundant life!  I have a hard time seeing that but I need only trust on Your all sufficiency!

You, LORD God told Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

I love this prayer of Paul's and claim it for myself.  "I pray that out of his glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being"  (Ephesians 3:16).  And I pray it for those dear to my heart.

Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
