Reading: Psalm 22
My Verse: 22:30,31 "Posterity shall serve him, they shall tell of the Lord to the next generation. They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people yet to be born - that he has done it [that it is finished!]"
This is one Psalm that is hard to read on so many levels. It is ominous and deeply wrenching and yet it has hope - the hope of Our Lord's victory in His finished Work on the cross. And I am so grateful for that. Yet, the plaintive cry of the author here drives deeply.
"My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? " (22:1) The very words spoken by Jesus as He hung on the cross for me. (Matt. 27:46)
"All who see me laugh at me and mock me; they shoot out the lip, . . ." (22:7,8) And the people did this very thing while You, Lord hung on that cross. "And those who passed by spoke reproachfully and abusively and jeered at Him, wagging their heads." (Matt. 27:39) "He trusts in God, let God deliver Him . . ." (Matt. 27:43)
I cannot fully comprehend what You, Lord, went through to make it possible for a sinful rebellious world to come back into fellowship with You. I am humbly and simply thankful. I am so thankful for those that played a part in bringing me to You. I am thankful that in the end . "All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall bow down and worship before You." (22:27)
I pray Lord, that I do my part to pass on what You have done. For in the end we each of us stand face to face with You. Thank You for what You did on the cross for me, so that I can stand before with You with joy.
Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
