Think Rightly About God

Reading:  Psalm 45 - 50
My Verse:  50:1  "The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and calls the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting."

I have been reading A.W. Tozer's book  The Knowledge of the Holy.  His opening chapter speaks of the importance of how we think of God.  "the most portentous fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like." (p. 1)  He also says, "It is impossible to keep our moral practices sound and our inward attitudes right while our idea of God is erroneous and inadequate." (p. viii)

This is one of the things the Psalms brings out so well - the majesty and glory of our Lord.  He is the Might One!  "Let be and be still, and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations!  I will be exalted in the earth!" (46:10)  I find that I need to read this often.  I need constant reminding of Who God is.  The world and daily living can so easily draw me away, make my mind lazy in regards to how I think of You, Lord.

Over and over the Psalms point out God's majesty and greatness.  They also point out man's finiteness.  "For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not descend after him." (49:17)  This too I need constant reminding about.  I can so easily start focusing on me and my wants and desires.

Oh, Lord, I know there are times when I do no  think correctly of You - I put You in a box or get far too casual.  Please forgive me.  Your Word is Truth and through it You correct my wrong thinking.  "For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide until death."  (48:14)  For this I am so thankful!

Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
