Be Prepared!

Reading:  I Thessalonians 4:15 - 5
My Verse:  "But we belong to the day, therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate of faith and love and for the helmet the hope of salvation" (5:8).

As I read through this passage I found my excitement growing.  How glorious will that day be - the day of Your return, Lord Jesus!

"Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord" (4:17 ESV).

Paul teaches of Your return to encourage us - to remind us of the great hope we have to look forward to.  But he also cautions and implores us to be ready.

I love the contrast of night and day.  We, believers belong to the day - to light - to truth.  We must prepare ourselves by putting on faith, love and hope.

He tells us we should be so ready that Your coming will not catch us unawares.  "But you are not in darkness, brethren, for that day to overtake you by surprise like a thief" (5:14).

He then goes on to say "For you are sons of the light and sons of day . . . " (5:5)

"Accordingly, then, let us not sleep, . . . but let us keep wide awake . . and sober . . ." (5:6)

We are to "encourage one another . . . and edify one another . . ." (5:11)

We are to "acknowledge" and "appreciate" our spiritual leaders.  (5"12)

We are to "be at peace  among ourselves. . ." (5:13)

We are to build up the weak. (5:14)

We are to be joyful (5:16)

We are to be prayerful. (5:17)

We are to be thankful. (5:18)

Yes, Lord, I must be prepared for Your return is imminent!  Thank you for this clear teaching.  We can  "Therefore comfort and encourage one another with these words."  (4:18)
