I Timothy 5,6
My Verse: "O Timothy, guard and keep the deposit entrusted [to you]! Turn away from the irreverent babble and godless chatter, with the vain and empty and worldly phrases, and the subtleties and the contradictions in what is falsely called knowledge and spiritual illumination" (6:20).
What an important warning! How I needed this as a young college student.
Unfortunately, I entered college totally unprepared. I was a Christian but did not have a good Bible background. I was not grounded in God's Truths! I was so much like the man that built his house on shifting sand. (Matthew 5:7) I was bombarded with so many new ideas - different ways of thinking. I foundered and in a short time was swept away by all the "irreverent babble and godless chatter." Like Paul says here because I entertained these "vain and empty and worldly phrases" I "erred as regards the faith" (6:21).
Lord Jesus, I am so grateful You did not let go of me in all that. I was so lost - so confused. I let my curiosity draw me into realms of thought where I had no business. It was all a mere vapor - there was nothing substantial in any of it. It was all the very opposite of truth! Thank You for showing me that.
I can only look to You, Lord, and praise You for Your love, for Your grace.
I thank You that You "Guide me in Your truth and faithfulness and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation, for You do I wait expectantly all the day long" (Psalm 25:5).
Thank You for telling us in John 14:6. ". . . I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by Me."
The beautiful thing is that I can never come to the end of You. I can search and study You to my hearts content. "Your [infinite] knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high above me, I cannot reach it" (Psalm 139:6).
II Peter 3:18 tells us to ". . . grow in grace and recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
Thank You for getting me back on firm ground. I can be sure of my standing on Your Truth and Knowledge for You alone are my Rock.
