No Man Is Infallible!

Reading:  Genesis 12
My Verse:  "Say, I beg of you, that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me for your sake and my life will be spared because of you"  (12:13).

Quite amazing.  Abraham, one of those Bible characters who is larger than life to most of us committs a most dreadful sin.   He - the father of the Israel nation!  And yet, even he does a most despicable thing!  In this case he not only  commits  sin himself  but requires that his wife also  sin.  He asks her to lie and committ adultery.  Oh LORD God, I keep asking myself how can this be?  How is it that this is in the Bible?  Abraham not only does this here but he does it again later on - the very same sin.

How easy it is for us to lose our way.  While in these bodies, while on this earth - we are never free from the danger of falling into sin.  Oh LORD, You provide us with ample warnings in Your Word.  It starts off immediately with Cain when You told him, "And if you do not do well, sin crouches at your door, its desire is for you, but you must master it"  (Gen. 4:7).

You tell us of so many great men and women who have fallen into the snares of sin.  David is another amazing Bible character and he too committed awful sins - not one but many.  And yet he, unlike Cain was able to repent and beg Your forgiveness.  "Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your steadfast love, according to the multitude of Your tender mercy and loving-kindness, blot out my trangresssions"  (Psalm 51:1).  And You did!  You only require of us to repent of our sin and You will do that - forgive us and "blot out our trangressions!

Dear, LORD God, help me to be like David - to have a tender heart for You.  Help me to be ever vigilant and alert as Peter implored us to be. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour . . ." (I Peter 5:8).

You put many things in the Bible - all of it for our edification, for our knowledge, that we would turn to You for the salvation of our souls.  Thank You for this, another clear warning on the danger of becoming complacent to sin.

My prayer today is this:  "Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me.  Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.  May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer" (Psalms 19:13,14).

Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
