Reading: Hebrews 7
My Verse: "Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them" (7:25).
Lord, You call us to "draw near" to You. Yet we cannot come near to You in our sinful state - as sinful beings. And we cannot get rid of our sin on our own. In the past it was required that priests be present to offer up sacrifices and prayers on the behalf of the people. Today we are able to come directly to You. We can ask You directly to forgive us our sins and You in Your wonderful mercy make it possible to "draw near to God." You did this by sacrificing Your very life , by the shedding of You own blood. Then You rose on the third day from death to "always . . . make intercession" for us.
We can only "draw near to God" "through Him", that is You, Jesus. You, alone can save us. Nothing else works. We cannot work our way into heaven. We cannot buy our way into heaven. We cannot bypass You, Jesus, to get to God. You and You only are the way. "For I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me" (John 14:6).
All you require of us is that we admit our sin - admit we cannot save ourselves. We are to come to You as a child would and ask You to save us - then You will. You "save us to the uttermost." Your salvation is complete - nothing else is required. And most wonderfully it is forever! Once I am saved I cannot again be lost. "My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater and mightier than all [else]; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are One" (John 10:29,30).
Too many think they need to have all their ducks in order before coming to You. Lord, You meet us where we are. You put the ducks in order for us. You help us to straighten out any confusion - wrong thoughts we may have in our minds. You do this as we are able to deal with them. You help us to "draw near to You." It is a hard thing to understand but we must simply and humbly admit our need to You and You will gladly wrap us up in Your arms and bring us along as we are able.
Thank You Lord Jesus for what You have done. You, Jesus, by Your intercessory prayer enable me to have this extraordinary privilege to "draw near" to Elohim Jehovah God!
