Regressing Back to A Babe!

Reading:  Hebrews 5
My Verse:  "For even though by this time you ought to be teaching others, you actually need someone to teach you over again the very first principles of God's Word.  You have come to need milk, not solid food.  For everyone who continues to feed on milk is obviously inexperienced and unskilled in the doctrine of righteousness" (5:12,13).

This verse seems to indicate that we can regress in our walk.  "you actually need someone to teach you over again the very first principles of God's Word."  Lord, thank you that You are patient.  You do meet us where we are, even when we go back to needing baby food!  You pick us up and carry us along until we can start to walk again.  Even then You are there as we totter along!  "The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore"  (Psalm 121:8).

But, I on my part must ever keep my eyes on You.  This is spiritual growth and it needs the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  "But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the Holy Spirit of God dwells within you.  But if anyone does not possess the Holy Spirit of Christ, he is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child of God]" (Romans 8:9)  "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God" (Romans 8:14).

You, Lord Jesus, even said this to Nicodemus when he came to You trying to understand what it meant to be "born again".  "I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a man is born of water and the spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God"  (John 3:5).

This is a hard concept to grasp.  As Nicodemus said, "How can all this be possible?

Lord God, You know us.  You know where we are.  You meet us there and bring us along even in our lack of understanding.  You only require that we cry out to You for help - in the midst of our unbelief - in the midst of our confusion - in the midst of our regressing! You only require that we cry out to You - that we admit our need.

"For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13).

You require truth from us.  You require us to worship You in spirit.  "God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth"  (John 4:24).

Thank You for loving me and being patient with me.  I know I cannot lose my salvation but I know I can stumble, fall and act like a babe - regress.  I know that is possible.  I know too that at those times I need only, like a child, reach up to You and You will lovingly take my hand and bring me along.

Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
