Reading: Mark 1 -3
My Verse: " . . . But the people kept on coming to him from all sides and every quarter."(1:45).
Such great need! We are so needy a people! We only need to look at the tendency of people to flock after some charismatic leader - whether political, artistic or religious- sometimes even to death to see the evidence of this human tendency.
"For He had healed so many that all who had distressing bodily diseases kept falling upon Him and pressing upon Him in order that they might touch Him!"(3:10)
I often wonder if evolutionists ever consider this aspect of our human nature and wonder from whence it comes. This need we have to follow - to look up to - to worship. Left to our own devices we are a discontented people. We are ever searching and grasping for something!
I truly appreciate the bravery of England's Prime Minister, David Cameron when he attributed the cause of England's recent chaos to the slow moral decline of his country. It took great courage. England is, after all, the home of the lead atheist of our day - Richard Dawkins.
Many of our day view Christianity as a mere crutch - implying this is for only the weak. Do they not realize, Lord, that crutches come in many forms - a charismatic leader, a job, money, relationships, power, popularity, a cause, etc.? It can be said really that everyone has some form of crutch - some form of substitute to fill that void in our hearts.
We need to get over the plain and simple fact that we are a needy people! You made us that way. There is a longing, a void in our souls that nothing but You can fill.
"For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good."(Ps. 107:9)
"For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation."(Ps. 62:1)
Ditat Deus - God Enriches!
